Senior Librarian, Electronic Resources Management
Core purpose: •To manage and administer the Electronic Resources Management (ERM) Section of the University of Fort Hare Libraries.
Duties: •Provide strategic direction and management of the department for all campuses •Ensure that library services meet the electronic resources needs of all staff and students •Direct the operations of the ERM Section •Manage and administer online subscriptions •Coordinate vendor demonstrations and trials •Provide feedback on technical compatibility with electronic resource infrastructure •Manage and administer the Millennium Electronic Resources Management module •Manage and administer MAP (Millennium Access Plus) •Gather and analyse usage statistics for electronic resources •Load the monthly coverage and MARC records from Serial Solutions' •Maintain current awareness of emerging trends •Understand the principles of link resolvers •Serve both the Electronic Resources Management team as well as the Library wide Collection Development team •Manage the section's budget, financial resources and assets.
Requirements: •Post graduate qualification in Library and Information Sciences •As a minimum, more than 10 years experience in academic libraries •As a minimum, more than three years experience in an electronic resources environment in an academic library.
Core competencies: •Detailed knowledge of the Electronic Resources Management module of the Millennium Integrated Library System •Proven analytical problem-solving skills and initiative •Knowledge of the ResearchPro, WebBridge and Web Access Management parameters and structure •A working knowledge of the Internet, Local and Wide Area Networks, remote access, proxy servers, firewalls, telnet, portals and various browsers •A working knowledge of MS Windows and MS Office •The ability to express technical and business concepts verbally and coherently on a one-to-one or small group basis using appropriate vocabulary to explain policies, procedures, etc. •The ability to develop policies and manuals for the unit •The ability to work in a collaborative, service-oriented environment •Strong people management and conflict management skills.
